Challenge

Innovate UK has created the Net Zero Heat Cohort, as part of the Net Zero Heat programme, partnering with CLT and Sustainable Ventures. This is a peer group cohort of 20 leading innovative companies covering a range of different types of technologies that will be key players in the future net zero heat economy. These companies have collectively received £27m of public sector funding, leveraging an additional £83m of private sector investment to date. The cohort is supported to identify and address common barriers to commercialisation through facilitated networking, workshops and evidence gathering to address systemic barriers in the sectors.

Solution

CLT ran an intensive 2-day innovation lab that facilitated the development of collaborative innovation across the cohort and with industry partners. The lab was used to support the co-creation of ideas, which were filtered through an innovation tournament to identify a winning initiative.

Outcome

Several collaborations were transitioned to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) after the lab and are now being advanced into formal consortia for new products or initiatives.

CLT also led on a research paper to quantify the economic impact on the cohort companies of the challenges with the accreditation process, in particular SAP, based on the experience of the cohort members.
